A HUGE number of people believe sales webinars are dead and will tell you with authority that “nobody buys from webinars anymore.” They believe all consumers figured out that webinars are low on content, high on sales pressure, and represent a giant waste of time. But, before you run out and cancel your Zoom or GotoWebinar account, here are a few thoughts to ponder.
People believe webinars are “dead” because someone told them webinars aren’t working anymore. (I’ve had people literally tell me, “So-and-so said webinars don’t work anymore!”)
Others may have tried doing a webinar and fell on their butts (without making any sales). Still others may have sold successfully with webinars in the past, did a new one, the new one flopped and, thus, make a universal conclusion that, “Webinars are dead!”.
I have not been immune to this thinking…
Back in 2016, I struggled to get people onto my webinars. It was getting harder and harder to get signups and show ups for my events.
Looking back, it all came down to 2 factors:
- A LOT more people started hosting webinars (LOTS more competition).
- Potential audience members had a LOT more on their plates (distraction).
The two factors combined to result in lower signup rates and lower showups from the people who did register. (Kinda like when TV went from 3 channels to 200+ on cable… same number of viewers spread out across way too many choices).
That’s what made me wonder if Webinars were dead.
Then something happened that changed everything…
We did the webinar to promote my Funnel Scripts software… and we crushed it. This webinar broke every previous record for anything I’d ever done before. Why?
Because of the email sequences we used to promote the event and follow up after.
Whereas before I was sending a couple of emails announcing a webinar, we ended up sending a whole series of emails with different purposes – at different times – to promote the Funnel Scripts webinar.
Also, instead of hoping the people who signed up days before the webinar would show up, we sent them an entirely separate set of very specific emails to MASSIVELY increase the show up rate. (Before that, I was literally HOPING people would show – not a sound business strategy).
At the end of this process, we had our highest performing webinar EVER (in terms of money made and sales conversion rates of attendees into buyers).
Oh, and we MAXED out the line at 1,000 attendees! (Talk about showups!)
Ever since then I can tell you with 100% certainty that webinars are NOT dead… but the way most people promote webinars is what causes their crappy results (and makes them think webinars are dead).

- Unlike most people who put all their time into creating the webinar and leave promotion as an afterthought, the high producers are very serious about the promotion of the event to get both signups AND show ups.

The big “ah-ha” for all of us here is we need to put as much – or MORE – effort into our promotion as we do the webinar itself!
