Advertising directly to your ebook or book is usually a bad idea and will cost you a lot of money. Believe me, I know from firsthand experience.
For years, I tried to advertise my $29 ebook directly, and every single time, it failed miserably. I would get discouraged and stop trying for a year or two, only to fall into the same trap again when I saw someone advertising a service or a book on how to make money with ads.
It was a vicious cycle, and I repeated the same mistake at least five times over the course of 10 years.
It wasn’t until I finally learned my lesson and set up a true “marketing funnel” for my book that I was able to successfully advertise and see big, scalable results.
I had to create a system where I had backend sales built directly into the website.
This was the only way I could make it work with paid ads… and my wallet and I both wish I had realized it sooner.
The main reason why advertising your book directly won’t work is because a book by itself doesn’t have a high enough profit margin.
The cost of ads is increasing as online traffic becomes more expensive, and trying to advertise something that costs $10, $15, or $20 is simply not economically viable.
To make money with a book, it must be part of a funnel where you are making immediate backend offers that cost significantly more than the book itself.
Only a few people will take those upsells, but the increased revenue will at least help you break even with your book, if not turn a profit.
I made the mistake of hoping that the rules would change, but they won’t. This is kind of like the law of gravity – it’s just the way things are.
Book funnels make money, while advertising books themselves do not.
However, there is one exception to this rule: running ads on Amazon’s platform to advertise books on Amazon.
This works because people are already on Amazon to make a purchase, so those ads have a higher probability of resulting in a sale than just general ads on Facebook, Google, or Instagram.
In conclusion, if you want to make money with your book, you need to create a funnel and stop wasting money on advertising directly to your ebook or book.
It’s time to change your approach and start seeing real results.
