The “Set It and Forget It” Myth: Keeping Traffic Flowing to Your Automated
Webinar
Somewhere along the way, business owners got sold a very expensive fairy tale.
It goes like this:
- Build the funnel.
- Record the webinar.
- Hook up the emails.
- Turn on the magic Internet faucet.
- Retire to a beach where leads arrive daily while you sip something with a tiny umbrella in it.
Nice story.
Also, mostly nonsense.
An evergreen funnel is not a crockpot. You cannot toss in a webinar, sprinkle in a few emails, hit “low heat,” and expect clients to appear by dinner every night for the next 10 years.
Here is the part nobody likes to say out loud:
Your automated webinar is only evergreen if your traffic is evergreen too.
Otherwise, you did not build a machine that produces recurring revenue.
You built a very pretty vending machine and forgot to find a good spot where people to stand in front of it and put in money.
And that is where a lot of good coaches, consultants, speakers, and business owners get stuck. They create a strong offer. They record the training. They build the registration page. They maybe even run a launch to their list.
It works.
Then the list gets tired.
The open rates sag. The clicks slow down. The same people keep seeing the same invitation like a rerun of a show they already skipped.
That is when the panic starts.
“Maybe the webinar stopped working.”
Maybe.
But more often, the funnel isn’t broken.
The road to the funnel is empty.
The Common Problem With Evergreen Funnels
Most people think an evergreen funnel is a sales asset.
That’s only half true.
An evergreen funnel is really a traffic conversion system.
But none of that matters without fresh attention entering the system.
It’s like a pond with no inlet or outlet… eventually it’s going to stagnate, dry up, and be nothing but a muddy hole.
This is where people confuse automation with abandonment.
Automation means the machine can do some of the work without you manually babysitting every step.
It does not mean the machine magically creates demand.
A car may be automatic, but it still needs gas (or a charge).
Same thing here.
Your funnel needs a steady flow of new people.
Not just “more traffic” in the vague marketing guru sense. I mean reliable sources of qualified people who are already feeling the pain your webinar helps solve.
That is the game.
Not emailing the same list until they start avoiding you like a neighbor with a clipboard.
Not posting “last chance” every Thursday until “last chance” loses all meaning.
The goal is simple:
Keep the funnel full without burning out your audience, your ad budget, or yourself.
The Same List Problem
Let’s say you have 2,000 people on your email list.
You launch your automated webinar.
At first, it feels great. You send an email. People register. A few buy. You feel like a genius.
Then you email again.
Fewer register.
Then again.
Even fewer.
By the fourth or fifth push, your list has basically formed a neighborhood watch committee against your webinar.
Not because they hate you.
Because they’ve already made a decision.
Some registered.
Some bought.
Some ignored it.
Some meant to watch it and got attacked by life, laundry, and a new show to binge watch on Hulu.
But the point is this:
You cannot build an evergreen business by repeatedly launching to the same shrinking pool of attention.
That is not evergreen… that is recycling.
And recycling is great for cans.
Not revenue.
The Traffic Table Principle
Here is a better way to think about it.
Your evergreen webinar needs a table with at least 3 legs.
If you only have one traffic source, you do not have a table. You have a pogo stick.
Fun for a minute. Terrible business model.
I call this the Traffic Table Principle:
A stable evergreen funnel needs at least three reliable traffic legs: borrowed traffic, owned traffic, and paid traffic.
Borrowed traffic is where you show up in front of someone else’s audience. Podcasts. Joint ventures. Guest trainings. Partner emails. LinkedIn collaborations. Community features.
Owned traffic is the audience you build and nurture yourself. Your email list. Your Facebook group. Your LinkedIn following. Your YouTube channel. Your Medium articles. Your private community.
Paid traffic is traffic you buy. Meta ads. Google ads. YouTube ads. Retargeting campaigns. Sponsored newsletters. Paid placements.
Each leg has a job.
Borrowed traffic brings new people in quickly.
Owned traffic builds long-term trust.
Paid traffic gives you control and scale.
When all three are working together, your funnel stops depending on one heroic email blast to save the month.
The 3 Questions That Keep Traffic Flowing
Before you blame your funnel, ask these three questions:
1. Where are new people discovering us this week?
Not in theory. This week.
2. What are we teaching that makes the webinar feel useful before we promote it?
If your content does not create desire, your webinar invitation has to work too hard.
3. What traffic source are we overusing?
If the answer is “our email list,” congratulations. You have found the leak.
These questions are simple, but they force honesty.
And honesty is cheaper than rebuilding a funnel that was not broken.
Build The Road, Not Just The Room
Your automated webinar is the room.
Traffic is the road.
Too many business owners decorate the room, polish the slides, rewrite the emails, obsess over button colors, and then forget the road is full of potholes, tumbleweeds, and one confused squirrel.
Do not make that mistake.
Build the road.
Create weekly content that teaches the problem.
Borrow attention from aligned audiences.
Grow owned channels that build trust.
Use paid traffic to test and scale.
Retarget people who showed interest.
Refresh the hooks before the market gets bored.
Because when traffic flows consistently, your evergreen funnel can finally do what it was built to do.
Not sit there looking pretty.
Sell.

For example, you can use it to turn one automated webinar into a full traffic plan: LinkedIn posts, Facebook group prompts, email invitations, retargeting ad ideas, short video scripts, webinar reminder emails, and fresh hook angles that point people back to your training without sounding like a broken vending machine.
Because the real win is not just having an automated webinar.
The real win is having a steady stream of the right people finding it.
That is when evergreen becomes more than a funnel.
It becomes momentum.
