(So You Can Sell Your Stuff And Get On With Your Life)
Most people overcomplicate funnels. They spend weeks fussing over software, logos, colors, and automation sequences – but the truth is, none of that matters if your message isn’t clear and your offer doesn’t sell.
You can build a working funnel in a weekend, sometimes even a single afternoon, if you follow this simple seven-step process. Let’s break it down.
Step #1 – Define Your Avatar
Everything starts with knowing who you’re talking to. If you skip this step, you’ll waste time and money shouting into the void.
- Who are you selling to?
- What do they want more than anything?
- What’s the pain or frustration driving them crazy right now?
The better you understand your ideal customer – their fears, dreams, and frustrations – the easier it is to write copy that hits them right between the eyes.
Step #2 – Define Your Offer Stack
Once you know who you’re helping, you’ve got to get clear on what you’re offering.
- What are you selling?
- What do they actually get (deliverables)?
- How will your offer solve their problem or satisfy their desire?
This is your offer stack – everything they receive plus all the bonuses, extras, and reasons why it’s a total no-brainer. Don’t just sell a “course” or a “program.” Sell the outcome, the speed, and the certainty your offer delivers.
Step #3 – Define Who YOU Are (and Why They Should Listen)
I know you’ve heard this idea before: People buy from people they trust. Here’s a twist on that idea that might open your eyes a little bit more: People buy from people that it makes sense to buy from! Period.
- Who are you in relation to your audience?
- Why should they listen to you?
- Why does it make sense they should buy from you as opposed to anyone else?
This isn’t about bragging. It’s about connection. Show them you’ve walked the path they’re on. Maybe you’ve overcome the same struggle, or maybe you’ve helped others do it. Either way, make it clear that you’re qualified to lead them to the solution they’re after.
Step #4 – Create Your Sales Letter
Now that you’ve got your avatar, your offer, and your credibility dialed in, it’s time to sell.
Your sales letter (or video script) is where the magic happens. It’s where you turn curiosity into cash.
- Hook them with their own desire or pain.
- Tell a story that connects.
- Agitate the pain they feel.
- Present your offer as the obvious solution.
- Stack the value.
- Prove why you’re the one to bring them the solution.
- Give them a (legitimate) reason to act now.
- Ask for the order.
Simple, clear, and benefit-driven copy wins every time.
Step #5 – Create Your Order Bump
This is your “easy yes” – the tool, template, or shortcut that helps your new customer get faster results from what they just bought.
The key? It’s got to be a no-brainer.
If your main offer teaches them how to do something, your order bump gives them something that does part of it for them. Maybe it’s a checklist, a swipe file, or a fill-in-the-blank template.
Keep the copy short, simple, and focused on speed and ease:
“Want to get your funnel live in half the time? Add the Funnel Template Pack for just $17!”
This one little step can dramatically boost your average order value – without adding any extra traffic.
Step #6 – Create Your One-Time Offer (OTO) Copy
Once someone buys, they’re in buying mode. Don’t waste that moment.
Offer them an irresistible upgrade – something that multiplies their results or gives them more personal access to you. Examples: one hour of coaching, a private mastermind, or a done-for-you version of what they just bought.
Keep it laser-focused on what helps them win faster.
Step #7 – Create Your Follow-Up Sequence (Email)
The fortune is in the follow-up.
Most people don’t make a huge profit on the first sale, so your email sequence must keep the conversation going. Tell stories, share wins, offer bonuses, and overcome objections.
Every email should do one of three things: build trust, educate, or invite them back to buy something else.
Wash – Rinse – Repeat
Once your funnel is live and producing sales, don’t sit back and hope. Improve it. Split-test headlines. Adjust your bump offer. Refine your follow-up emails. Test new sources of traffic.
Funnels are never “done.” They evolve – and the faster you iterate, the faster you scale.
The Bottom Line
You don’t need a giant team or months of planning to create a funnel that converts.
You just need a clear target audience, a compelling offer, believable copy, and the guts to get it out the door.
Follow these seven steps and you’ll have a sales funnel that sells – fast.
