Email Teasers That Get People Begging To Buy

I remember sitting at my computer in my little white house frustrated. I’d spent hours crafting an email I thought would change everything (and make me RICH!). It was packed with details about a new product I was launching. I crafted the perfect subject line, poured my heart into explaining everything, and then hit send, believing I had done my best work yet.

Crickets…

When the results came in – let’s just say I was disappointed. The click-through rate was crap, and I couldn’t figure out why. I was convinced that my audience would appreciate all the great information I was giving them. But instead, it flopped.

Then one day, I was super short on time. I had only had a couple of minutes to write an email. I sat down and just let it flow. The subject line read, “I can’t believe this actually happened!” The body was a quick note, something like,

“Hey (NAME),

Jim Edwards here.

Something so incredibly cool just happened, and I can’t believe it myself!

Click here to check it out.

I’ll talk to you soon.

Jim”

I honestly felt guilty at how little effort I’d put into it. But then, within hours, I saw the numbers. The click-through rate surged through the roof (seriously crazy numbers)! I couldn’t wrap my head around it. It felt like I’d been pouring my heart into preparing healthy, organic meals, only to find that everyone just loves fast food. 🍔🤡

This was a revelation.

I realized that the true purpose of an email teaser was not to give everything away but simply to ignite curiosity.

Think about how a movie trailer works. It gives just enough plot to hook you, leaving you eager to see the entire film. If they reveal too much of the entire story in the trailer, nobody buys a ticket.

The same principle applies to email teasers.

If you reveal too much, there’s no reason for them to click on to the next step in the sales process. The goal is to entice… to create a spark of interest that leads to action.

From that moment, I changed my approach.

I began visualizing a friend of mine, George. He was the ideal person I wanted to reach. George wasn’t the most tech-savvy guy, but he was smart and always curious about cool new things. I would write my emails as if they were personal notes addressed to George. I stopped trying to impress the 10% and instead focused on connecting with the 90%.

“Hey, George!

I’ve got something fantastic to share with you.

It’s about this, this, and this…

Go check it out, and I’ll catch up with you later!

Jim”

That was the vibe. One hundred percent focused on getting him curious enough to click through.

The results were nuts. My click-through rates improved, often exceeding anything I had achieved before with my overly detailed emails. But I didn’t stop there.

I realized this lesson goes beyond email marketing. In all areas of business and even life, intentionality matters.

When I’m crafting ads or writing content, I keep it simple. What action do I want my audience to take? Will what I’m creating drive them to take that action?

I try to embrace the “less is more” mentality.

Now, 100% transparency… I’ve had to relearn this lesson time and again.

I’m ALWAYS tempted to write long emails when I think it’s important to cover every detail. But whenever I stray from the simplicity of a good teaser, I remind myself of George. If people don’t feel the urge to click, the entire purpose is lost.

Here’s the takeaway: when creating email teasers, give less information but pack it with emotion. You want people to feel excited or intrigued, not overwhelmed. Give just enough to make them want to know more… and get them to click.

This principle of giving less while engaging emotion matters more today than ever. With so much noise online, everyone and their grandma is vying for attention. You can’t afford to drown your message in details. When you get concise and focused on emotion with your teasers, you’ll cut through the clutter.

Crafting your email teasers in this way isn’t just smart; it’s essential – IF you want people to buy.

So, remember, the next time you sit down to write an email teaser, your goal is to help people take that step – click the link, and explore the offer.

Focus on creating that spark, and trust me, you’ll find yourself with customers who are begging to buy .Ditch the guesswork. Skip the struggle.
