These Old School Promotions Still Make Money!(If You Apply Them)

Before my breakthrough in 2001, my business felt like the little pig’s house made of straw… a high wind and it was all over! I had several books and was managing to make ends meet, but it all seemed random and unpredictable. There was no solid system in place, and that lack of direction was actually frightening. I knew it could all fall apart at any moment.

The turning point came when Joe Vitale and I collaborated on the “7-Day Ebook.” It combined his insights and my years of experience in ebook marketing. However, even with a big-name partnership, that fear didn’t go away!

In the face of that fear, I decided to take drastic action. I committed to promoting that new book like it was my lifeline. I worked 8 to 10 hours EVERY day, leveraging connections and reaching out to everyone who might help spread the word.

The struggle was real.

Most people ignored my requests, while others flat-out rejected them with big, fat NO’s. But persistence paid off. I kept following up and nurturing relationships, turning no’s into maybe’s… and maybe’s into yes! (God bless my wife who supported me throughout this grind.)

Through this experience, I learned that success doesn’t hinge on having a large advertising budget (I had ZERO ad budget). Creativity and relationship-building can often drive bigger, more profitable results. I often see people waste thousands of dollars on conventional marketing and advertising for their books while skipping over smarter, more effective strategies.

The reality is simple.

Successfully promoting your book is more about consistent effort and dedication than blowing money on ads.

My advice is to identify promotion methods that resonate with you and your audience – and then commit fully to them.

Here are 3 “old-school” book promotions that still work! Add them to your repertoire and see how they do for you! 😊

1.  Do a Press Release to Promote Your New Book

Doing a press release to promote your new book is a strategic move that can significantly enhance your visibility in a crowded market. In an age where traditional marketing avenues are often overshadowed by digital media, a well-crafted press release serves as a powerful tool to attract attention from journalists, bloggers, and potential readers. It succinctly conveys essential information about your book, such as its topic, themes, and author background, creating an opportunity for media coverage and interviews. This exposure not only helps in generating buzz around the book but also builds credibility, making it more appealing to bookstores, libraries, and readers alike.

2.  Send Review Copies of Your New Book to Influencers

Sending review copies of your new book to influencers can significantly impact your book’s visibility and sales. Influencers, whether they are bloggers, social media personalities, or book reviewers, have audiences who trust their opinions. By providing them with a copy of your book, you create an opportunity for authentic engagement and word-of-mouth promotion. When they share their thoughts – whether through a blog post, social media shoutout, or video review – it can spark interest among their followers, leading to increased exposure for your book. This organic promotion often carries more weight than traditional (PAID) advertising, as people tend to value recommendations from individuals they admire.

3. Write Guest Articles or Blog Posts to Promote Your New Book

One highly effective strategy that many authors overlook is writing guest articles or blog posts. By sharing your insights, experiences, or expertise through other people’s platforms, you not only reach new audiences but also establish yourself as an authority in your genre.

Writing guest articles or blog posts allows you to showcase your knowledge and style without the confines of your book’s pages. This is an invaluable opportunity to provide potential readers with a taste of what they can expect from your work. A well-crafted article can engage readers, spark their interest, and encourage them to seek out your book for a deeper dive. By giving your audience a glimpse into your writing voice and unique perspectives, you make them more likely to invest in your book.
